3D CAD: Introducing a new dimension to M&E services : 20 April 2009
To allow us to continually improve the level of information and detail on our drawings and subsequent standard of our final installation that we provide to our customers, we have recently taken a leap forward with the introduction of 3D AutoCAD software in the Harvey Group CAD department.
Restrained by the limited amount of space and locations of pipes, we were able to fully investigate all the possible solutions to achieve the most efficient final design for the client prior to installation.
The software allows us to transform our traditional two dimensional AutoCAD drawings into fully interactive three dimensional walkthroughs. The three dimensional walkthroughs allow us to fully co-ordinate and scrutinize the position of all plant and materials so as to maximize the use of available space.
It also benefits our customers, allowing them to ‘virtually’ look around their building prior to being built and gain a better understanding of the final product.
We believe this is an invaluable asset have already invested in additional resources and training for our AutoCAD department staff. We are keen to implement 3D work on all new projects where applicable benefiting both the development process and resulting outcome.
The following short video shows the initial rendering of a Boiler House on a recent project at Grosvenor Grammar School Belfast.
